Pool Filter Cleaning in Gilbert, AZ

Your filter catches the dirt, dust and debris your pool collects, and over time it fills up. A clogged filter means cloudy water and a pump that works harder than it should. We clean pool filters for homes in Gilbert and across the East Valley.

What a Filter Cleaning Covers

Here's what happens when we clean your filter.

  • Shut off the pump and let the pressure out
  • Open the filter and take out the cartridges
  • Rinse each cartridge clean, down between the pleats
  • Look over the cartridges for tears and worn ends
  • Check the tank, the lid and the o-ring seal
  • Put it back together and start the system
  • Check the pressure and flow once it's running

Signs Your Pool Filter Needs Cleaning

The pressure gauge on top of the filter is the easiest clue. Every filter has a normal reading when it's clean. When the needle climbs well above that, the filter is full and water isn't getting through easily.

You may also notice weak flow from the jets that return water to the pool. Water that stays cloudy even when the chemicals test fine is another sign. So is a pump that sounds like it's straining.

A full cartridge is easy to spot once it's out of the tank. It turns brown and gets packed with grime. After a cleaning, the same cartridge comes back light and clean.

Why Filters Clog Up in the Desert

Arizona pools collect plenty of fine dust. It blows in on windy days, and a monsoon storm can drop a lot of dirt and debris into the water in one afternoon. Gravel, leaves and blooms from desert landscaping end up in the pool too.

All of that ends up in the filter. Hard water adds to it, because calcium can coat the cartridge pleats and slow the flow. Sunscreen and body oils from summer swimming do the same.

A filter also works hard after a green pool cleanup. It catches the dead algae as the water clears, so it may need cleaning more than once during the job.

Filter Cleaning and the Rest of Your Pool

A clean filter makes everything else easier. The pump doesn't strain as hard, the chemicals work better, and the water clears faster. During weekly pool cleaning, we watch the filter pressure, so we can tell you when a cleaning is due.

Sometimes a cleaning turns up a bigger problem, like a cracked housing or a pump that's struggling. Our pool repair work covers those. When a filter is too old to keep going, equipment upgrades can replace it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a pool filter be cleaned?

There's no single schedule that fits every pool. It depends on how much dirt and debris your pool collects, how often it's used and how the pressure gauge reads. Big storms can fill a filter faster, so a cleaning after monsoon season often makes sense.

Can you replace my cartridges?

Yes. If your cartridges are torn, flattened or worn out, we'll tell you and can replace them.

Will a clean filter fix my cloudy water?

It often helps, but cloudy water can also come from the chemistry. We test the water too, so we can fix both if needed.
